6 Classes is Way Better Than 8

My second semester as a full-time acupuncture student started on Monday, and so far I am loving it! The week before school started we had a snowstorm, so my husband, who plows was gone plowing, or sleeping, or busy most of the week. I was a bit disappointed, wanting to spend time relaxing or doing fun things with George after the craziness of the holidays, and before the craziness of school, but instead of wasting so much time, I decided to study. I really enjoyed getting back into the swing of things a little early, and it made it nice starting the semester off just a little bit ahead.

Going back to school on Monday was great. As I said in my last post, it's so nice to have my time back on Monday mornings. Being able to workout, then have time after to shower and get stuff done at my own pace, is such a great way to start out the week. Once at school, it was so nice to see my fellow classmates. Being in such an intense program, I have made so many close friends in the past semester, friends who are supportive, helpful, caring and fun. I really can't think of one person in my whole class of about 70 people that I dislike, it's really amazing how great everyone is! So anyway, I got my grades from last semester, and was very excited and relieved to see that I passed all my classes. Mostly B's, an A- in Materials and Methods and a C+ in Living Anatomy (a class I found quite challenging).

My schedule is great, I am only taking 6 classes this semester, instead of the 8 I had last semester. So already, this semester seems very doable, and a little easier than the Fall semester. Things are starting to come together and make more sense. I'm still having a hard time with Point Location, it was my biggest challenge last semester, and it seems it will be again this semester. Hopefully with some extra practice and help from my friends, it will start to click more and get a bit easier. With that said...time to do some studying today... ;)

Spring Semester Starts Today!

Ahhhh....although I really didn't want to get up at 4:30 this morning, it was nice to remember that feeling of accomplishment at 7:00am, after completing Ride (spinning class) at 5:15 and 6:00am Power (weight lifting class). It is such a great way to start off the week...especially the first week back at school after winter break.

Like most people at the beginning of a new year, I'm thinking about changes I want to make in my life. I try to steer away from an actual resolution, and focus on more short term goals. But I also try to tell myself, that things aren't going to be perfect, and some things I will just have to accept the way they are. And this is hard. My life currently seems to be the busiest it has ever been, which has proven to be more of a challenge than I had first anticipated. So instead of having a resolution to "lose weight," I am going to have a goal to only eat ice cream once or twice a week (my husband and I are addicted...), to limit my drinking, and to work out 6 days a week, even I'm tired and it's only a walk to the beach with the dogs. Another goal is to keep up with studying daily, so that when it's time for a test, I'm not scrambling to try to learn everything, but reviewing it instead. And that's it. I think if I can really commit to those few things, this semester will just be better.

My Monday classes don't start until 1:30, it's so great to have Monday morning to do my old routine and have time to relax and get stuff done before I have to drive to school. Much better than last semester when I would have to leave the house by 5:45 (4:30 if I would work out first) and get home at 7:30. At this point I feel excited about the semester, ready to work, study and learn...hopefully this feeling lasts, at least until "spring break" in February.

Looking forward to a balanced, productive and fun semester!
