About a year and a half ago, I finally figured out what I wanted to do with my life. It took me a while to get there, but one day, I was thinking about going back to school, did some research online, then it all clicked. My path in life is to help people, and the way I will do it is by becoming an acupuncturist. It was a completely amazing feeling to finally feel passionate about a career, a real career. A whole new world opened up to me, and there was no way to ignore the feeling that this is what I am meant to do.
I enrolled as a part time student to start working on science requirements. It was a great way to ease myself back into school. I graduated from college in 2006, so I wasn't out for too long, but it's easy to get used to not having homework and studying. So I spent my first year at acupuncture school taking Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. I was also nannying at the time, but I wasn't working full time, so it was a very enjoyable year with lots of free time.
Then everything quickly changed last August, when I became a full-time acupuncture student. I had hours upon hours of reading and studying, lots of time in the car driving to and from school, and free time became a luxury. But it I love it, and it is so worth it. I just finished my first semester about a week ago, and it was hard! I don't think I have ever studied that much in my life! It is so amazing learning and discovering so much about acupuncture, and about myself. I have already learned so much. With Tai Chi, Materials and Methods, History and Culture, Living Anatomy, Business Lab, Point Location, Chinese Medicine Theory and Microbiology, it was a very busy semester. I was so tired after finals, it took me about a week to recover and feel normal again!
I am on break for another week, enjoying lots of rest, relaxation and quality time with George and the dogs. But I am also ready to go back and get through another semester of hard work. I'm using this blog to document my experience at school, and trying to find balance with the intense Master's program, my husband, dogs, family and friends, and also finding time to exercise (which has proven to be more of a challenge than I expected), and have fun. I also hope this blog will offer some education and information about acupuncture and how beneficial it is for most everyone. More to follow. Enjoy!
